STRESS AND MENTAL HEALTH





There are certain disorders which will affect the mental balance of the person under severe stress.They are as follows.


1) ANXIETY DISORDERS:

i) Panic disorders:


The reason for this is unexpected panic attacks. The symptoms are shortness of breath,palpitations,sweating,dizziness, fear of dying etc.

ii) Post traumatic disorders;

It is a life threatning psychological trauma such as victim of physical or emotional violence. The symptoms are anxiety,apprehension,tension, repetitive nightmares,insomnia, depression, suicidal tendencies.


iii)Phobias:

It is fear mediated avoidance behaviour due to the danger posed by an object or situation and the person behaves out of proportion. Various phobias are mentioned below.


Acrophobia: fear of high places.

Agoraphobia:fear of being in situations or places where escape is impossible.

Clustro phobia: fear of closed places.

Hemato phobia: fear of Blood.

Monophobia: fear of being alone.

pathophobia:fear of diseases.

Ocholophobia: fear of crowds.

iv) Obsessive-compulsive disorder:

The individual is forced to think or act in a certain way to which they have no control. This affects the social functioning. The person will have feelings of inadequecy and insecurity. They feel guilty and restless.

Anxiety Disorders:

The individual lives in tension, worry, oversensitive in interpersonal relations, lack of concentration,difficulty in decision making,nightmares etc.

Psychogenic Amnesia:

After some traumatic and streeful events memory loss will be there for a limited period and the individual will forget personal information. It will be for selected eventsand period or continuous to present.

Psychogenetic fugue:

The individual will be amnesic and also leave the home and wander with new identity. After recovery he will not remember what happened in fugue state.


Multiple personality disorder:

Normally, the person changes one personality to another and cannot remember in one what happened in the other.

Major Depression:

under this condition,there exists fatique,insomnia or hypersomnia,sadness,loss of interest in pleasurable activities, slowing down of physical and mental activities.

Alcohol or drug abuse:

The individual will be addicted to alcohol or drug to relive the stress.
