SELF-ESTEEM
Let me take you back to your school days. Teacher was taking the New chapter. In the middle of his lecture he is shooting some questions.
We notice that two or three students only answers immedietly just like a bullet.
Some answers with some hesitation if specifically asked .
Few students drop their head so as to hide from teacher's notice.
The student who answers to almost all questions first beliefs himself that he can tell the answer.
He always wants to be a superior student . what makes him to act so swiftly.
That is the personal evaluation of himself. This is known as Self-Esteem.
The California task force defines self-esteem as below.
"appriciating my own worth and importance and having the character to be accountable for myself and to act responsibily towards others"
The student who acts quickly has high self -esteem.The others have low or very low self Esteem.
If the individual person with high self -esteem faces failure in a particular area in which he thinks himself superior, his self -esteem will suffer.
success and failures influence the self -Esteem.
coopersmith states that self- esteem is the personal evoluation of worthiness of onself seen in terms of attitudes that individual bears towards himself.
An individual's self -esteem is based on a combination of objective information about oneself and the subjective evaluation of the information.
child hood experiences bears the major role in high self-esteem .
high self -esteem can be had thro' the following:

6) carrier achivements.
If the individual is brought up by very strict parents with rigid rules and regulations
then they become low self-esteem.
Negative body image, severe criticism by parents, others and the self, unwanted comparisons with other by parents ,wanting to be perfect in all aspects and the sense of hopelessness will create low self -Esteem.
